40 Years Don't Seem So Long

40 years don’t seem so long
Headboards nailed to the wall
Pictures of doves up above
Sterile rooms lit by chromed lamps
Don’t feel like home at all
Empty spaces lurk in the heart
Trying to keep myself company
Working the work – place to place
All with songs of posterity
What I mean is…

40 years don’t seem so long
Looking back on a good day
Looking back while standing still
40 years don’t seem so long
On the road that leads to nowhere

Nowhere don’t seem so long
Living in the void
Rules don’t apply
Make it up as you go along
New faces, new places
That don’t remember
Keep going, don’t stop
Reinvent
Nowhere don’t seem so long
Turning into everywhere

Everywhere don’t seem so long
White lines are a blur
New Places, New faces
Erases, replaces memories of
Nowhere
Running, playing, laughing
Not thinking, not the deep kind

Just a number- 40 years don’t seem so long
