Warm yesterdays
Porch sitting
Listening
Maternal heartbeat of the earth
Trains in the background
Traveling on metal beasts
Journeys being understood
Car lights shine across the lake
Headlights in the sun
Just weeding
iron in the dirt resonates with the metal
in my blood.
83 F – humid
Mississippi afternoons
air waterlogged
heavy, wet,
cotton in the fields after rain
smell of the clay
strong, rusty, old
undeniably organic
heat deep down
rich as pork frying– owning the air.
